NEW REVOLOUTION IN CMIMNEY BUSINESS

THE PAST For thousands of years, humanity had no problem with chimneys because for heating and cooking wood and coal were used only. This, however, had tragic results for chimneys. An acidic condensate arises from the flue gas, corroding mortar, concrete, and in some cases even stainless steel. Due to this corrosion, carbon monoxide may enter the rooms, causing many cases of death every year. THE PRESENT To avoid this dangerous situation all gas and oil heated chimneys must be lined against corrosion. The most frequent technology is to insert corrosion resistant tubes into an existing chimney. In this case, the following unsolvable problems present themselves: • Rigid, thick-walled (0.6 mm) stainless steel tubes are good against corrosion (10 years guarantee), but it is impossible to insert them into a long, crooked chimney without joints and breaking the wall. • Flexible, thin-walled (0.3 mm) stainless steel tubes can be pulled into a chimney with declinations, but their resistance to corrosion is not satisfactory. • The cross-section of the inserted lining tube is always smaller than that of the existing chimney. This can result in lower draft and less efficient functioning of the boiler. • When the existing chimney is rectangular, i.e. 200 x 300 mm, to secure the same cross-section a 275 mm diameter rigid tube must be inserted. This is impossible.
